Hello NYCO! It is now June, but still... Certificate of Distinction!
From the script of our SYF results announcement in case you did not manage to catch it:
"Thank you to all of you for working so hard to prepare for SYF, and it is you who make up this orchestra which we feel proud to be part of. Even though SYF Arts Presentation 2013 is over, our journey in striving for the perfection of our music continues on. As Mrs Ee says, it is hard work that can bring NYCO to greater heights. So let us continue to work hard and play music from our hearts!"
Games Day will be coming soon, and it will be planned by our very own Secondary 2 batch! Look forward to 27 June! :D
Before you know it, the Secondary 4s will be stepping down already – around one and a half months left D: This also means that it is the time to be electing our new committee! :)
Everyone plays a highly important role in the election process for our new committee as each and every one of your nominations and votes contribute to the final decision making! So nominate wisely! ^_^

NYCO's committee should be able to bring about positive influence to the orchestra, motivate all our members, and at the same time create a fun and enjoyable learning environment for everyone!

Below are the roles and responsibilities for each committee member. Please read through all of them and decide carefully who to nominate for each post! Nomination Day will be on 20 June. So please do take time to think about this during the rest of this week – remember, your contribution via nominations matter!

Roles (in brackets are the levels in which the nominees must be in THIS YEAR):
President (Sec 3) & Vice-President 1 (Sec 3)
The president is the main source of administrative support and leads NYCO with the support of the EXCO. She should have ample organisation skills and be an effective leader. The VP1 provides the president support and should be equally capable. It is important that the President and VP1 work well together and complement each other. Both will often work with the teachers-in-charge, EXCO and CO, so good communication skills are a must. They are effectively the bridge of communication between the teachers and CO. These 2 roles require a huge sense of commitment and responsibility towards NYCO.

Vice-President 2 (Sec 2)
The VP2 is the president understudy. She supports the President and VP1 and learns the essentials to leading CO well through various leadership opportunities along the way. She is also the main key holder for NYCO’s practice rooms.

Secretary (Sec 3) & Assistant Secretary (Sec 2)
The secretaries are responsible for taking, sorting through and collating everyone’s attendance during daily practices, recording meeting minutes and many other administrative duties. These posts can prove to be very demanding, so our secretaries have to be really on-task and efficient.

Treasurer (Sec 2 or 3)
Money is a big responsibility, especially for NYCO as we have so many people. Of course, she is in charge of the CO funds and is responsible for collecting and keeping the large amounts of money (e.g. for food, camp, concert etc). The treasurer has to be very clear-headed, precise and meticulous in what she does.

Manager of General Affairs (Sec 2 or 3)
The MGA is mainly in charge of our logistical and welfare needs. She has to make sure that we have food to eat, uniforms to wear and proper (and clean!) chairs, music stands and practice venues to use! CO activities, such as Camp and Orientation, also involve important planning duties of the MGA. The MGA should be a consistent person who is responsible and reliable with her work.

Scores in-charge (2 people, Sec 2 or 3)
The scores you receive every time when we begin a new piece are prepared by our scores in-charge! The CO library is also organised by the scores in-charge. It is hard work to get all of the part scores copied out and printed for everyone, so stamina will be needed to take up this post. Being able to read stave notation (
五线谱) and transpose is also a plus.

Section Leaders (1 for each section, Sec 3 + 1 ASL for Xianyue, Sec 2)
The section leaders are one of the most important roles in the CO! They oversee the administrative matters of their section, as well as their section's training, technical performance and welfare. They are also the ones communicating with our instructors. SLs should be able to positively influence, motivate their sections and promote bonding within their sections (which includes integrating the Sec 1s). They should also be responsible, efficient in disseminating information and constantly aware of what is going on in the section.

Student Conductor (Sec 3) & Assistant Student Conductor (Sec 2)
The student conductor oversees the musical performance of the orchestra when our conductor is not around (e.g. conducting for open house, orientation concerts etc) and conduct tuning sessions before every dazu. The assistant student conductor is the SC understudy and assists the SC during tuning sessions. They are important as they help ensure better intonation during dazu (your tuners are not always accurate!).They are usually selected by Mrs Ee, but you can also nominate yourself if you are interested.

Each and every role is very important! :D But all the roles have something in common:
LOVE NYCO

If you have any problems or questions regarding any post, feel free to approach Shu Hui or Ying Xian, as well as current committee members (especially if you have questions pertaining to a specific post)!

JIAYOUS FOR NANYANG FESTIVAL OF ARTS! Let us all have fun!

NYCO ALL THE WAY!
